DAY ONE

wow.  where's comic san's when you want it?

Today had my first chat with my UMR life coach.  She's a person who is employed by my insurance company to try to bring me to a newer, better lifestyle; a newer better me.  We sit and chat about goals, what seems reasonable, and then how to implement those goals.  I guess she's the person who will help to light the fire under my tail feathers if I start to slack.
No,  that's my job.

We'll start with weight.  I've been at or around 240 for a long time now.  I carry the weight well, don't look the poundage, but it is taking a toll..  I have 2 knee replacements with the first a good 5 years past life expectancy...  My ankles and feet complain, as well as my back.  I'm on a short list of medications (compared to what Mary has to take), I don't want to be adding more.   I've had to cut back from full time to part time, as my physical self couldn't handle the 36 hours of constant standing/walking that is required of my job. Sure, there is time to sit (at lunch ~ breaks?  forget about it.)  The 2 days a week (24 hours) is doing much better.  There is a difference in the pay check, but manageable.  I work nights, weekends and holidays to make the most of the hours I do have...

GOAL: walking 2-3 times a week, minimum 1/2 mile (once around the block).  I want to take Trixie with me as she could use the exercise as well: vet says she's overweight..  I do walk at work, but that will not be counted into my weekly goal.

Healthier eating.  That involves getting Mary on board with menu planning..

TODAY
Trixie and I took our first walk around the block.  For me, it was easy. My legs, knees etc. don't hurt.  I'll be able to amp up my "round the blocks" easily, and sooner rather than later.  Trixie didn't fare so well.  She started out fine, but then really slowed down 3/4 around the block.  I had to keep bumping her with the cane to keep her moving.  She has a knee issue, and I can tell it was bothering her.  I won't be taking her for my walks I guess.   :(

I'm charging my fitbit.  It will take a couple of days as it has been sitting silent for over a month.  It may sound trite, but today is the first day of the rest of my life.  I'm going to have to make it work, to live long, healthy, and happy.
